Announcement 3/15

Dear parents and students, Since everything happened so fast and suddenly, I didn't realize that last Saturday was the last time we met in this spring semester. According to NCS's requirement, we will have no school in the rest of this semester. However, I still want you to review all the knowledge that we learned in the past few weeks. We learned chapter 1-4, and you can continue to learn chapter 5-6 independently because chapter 5 is about colors, and chapter 6 is about family member and how to describe people's appearance. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. You can email me or text me in our group chat. For the grammar part, we learned several basic Chinese grammar rules such as statements, questions, active and passive voice, double-object sentences, and three different tenses including past tense, present tense, as future tense. The notes can be found in the group chat or my blog as well. Last week we learned two types of questions (actual

Hello everyone, This week we learned double-object sentences. All of you did a great job, especially in the sentence making part! I'm proud of you! Here are the pics of today's notes. You can use these notes to do a quick review of what we learned. Next week, we will start to learn chapter 4, the zoo and animals. After learning the new vocabulary, we will continue to learn Chinese grammar. I will introduce four different types of questions for you. You can use your spare time to preview the content of chapter 4. This week, your homework is: Make six sentences, try to use words such as 给,送,找,教,叫,问,告诉 to make double-object sentences. You can also mix what we learned before like three different tenses into your new sentences.  Students who did not do the last week's homework need to do extra work, which means that you should create a sentence in the present tense and active voice first, and then change it to passive voice, as well as past tense and future tense. Hello everyone, How was your weekend? I hope that everything is going well. I just want to make sure that all of you are clear about the homework requirement. Last Saturday, we reviewed chapter one and two. All of you did a really good job! You were able to do a brief introduction about yourself and your family members. Many of you also added what we learned last semester such as favorite fruit or vegetables. I'm proud of you! Besides, because most of you showed a great interest in learning basic Chinese grammar, last week we discussed three tenses: past, present, and future tense, as well as two voices: active and passive voice. It is of great importance to know the Chinese grammar, especially when you want to discuss what happend, what's happening, and what will happen. Since all of you are in the group chat, I want you to use the pics to review three tenses and two voices. Also, you need to take these sentences in the pics as an example to create two simple sentences

Hi everyone, Happy Lantern Festival! The event for celebrating the Lantern Festival was cancelled this week because of the flu season and coronavirus, but no worries! We will hold this event next week. We will be really glad if some of the parents can come and help us as volunteers! Thank you. Please take care of yourselves and remember to sanitize your hands. This week we learned the chapter 3, how to say your birthday, year, date, and the days of a week in Chinese. Considering that you are busy with your schoolwork, we will have no written homework this week. However, it does not mean that you do not have homework! Please review what we learned in class and prepare for next week's oral quiz. Some of you took the pics, could you please share the pics in the group chat so that the students who did not show up today can also use these pics to learn and review chapter 3? Thank you! Also, we finished learning the whole song The Phantom of The Opera. Please remember to pra

Dear parents and students, 新年快乐!Happy Chinese New Year! This week we learned the first two paragraphs of The Phantom of The Opera. All of you got a Chinese version of the lyrics. I hope you can watch the Chinese version again and try to pronounce the rest of the lyrics.  Next week we will continue to learn Chapter 2 about family members. Please preview the text on page 8 and think about how to introduce your family. I understand that because of the culture differences, the names in Chinese and English have slightly differences, which may increase the difficulty to memorize them. Next week, I want to invite you to explore the differences related to family between eastern and western ideology.  Besides, since this week we did not have enough time to go over the knowledge about numbers, we will take an oral quiz at the beginning of the next class. Hope all of you can review the previous knowledge and prepare for the quiz. Thank you! Best, Tianyi

Hello everyone, This week we learned how to write your address in Chinese and how to count numbers from 1 to 999. Please preview the text of chapter 1 and think about how to ask your partner's address and telephone number, as well as how to pronounce your address and number in Chinese. At the beginning of the next class, I will invite you to choose a partner, come to the front, and then make a conversation with your partner. Although you do not have written homework, it does not mean you do not homework this week. I will evaluate your performance according to next week's conversation. Besides, after discussion and negotiation, this week, we decided to choose the Chinese version of The Phantom of the Opera to do our final performance. Please remember to watch the YouTube video (both English and Chinese version) to get familiar with the melody and lyrics of this song. Thank you! Looking forward to seeing you next week. Best, Tianyi

Hi everyone, You need to attend the final exam on Nov. 23rd, before the vacation of Thanksgiving. This semester we learned from chapter 11 My Pets to the last chapter My Room so that our test range includes these chapters. You also need to review the words related to colors. I'd already introduce the structure of this test in class. The first part is multiple choices. You need to choose the most suitable answer from the following four options. The second part requires you to use pinyin to spell the name of each item according to the following pictures. The third part is about circling the radical of each character and the fourth part needs you to use words, phrases, or sentences to describe a picture. The fifth part requires you to write a short essay related to your home and your room. You need to pay more attention to the last part: make a conversation with your partner. Before this test, you should find a partner and practice with him or her. You can pick whatever you want t
