NCSCSL2-02/15/2020

Hello everyone,

How was your weekend? I hope that everything is going well. I just want to make sure that all of you are clear about the homework requirement.

Last Saturday, we reviewed chapter one and two. All of you did a really good job! You were able to do a brief introduction about yourself and your family members. Many of you also added what we learned last semester such as favorite fruit or vegetables. I'm proud of you!

Besides, because most of you showed a great interest in learning basic Chinese grammar, last week we discussed three tenses: past, present, and future tense, as well as two voices: active and passive voice. It is of great importance to know the Chinese grammar, especially when you want to discuss what happend, what's happening, and what will happen.

Since all of you are in the group chat, I want you to use the pics to review three tenses and two voices. Also, you need to take these sentences in the pics as an example to create two simple sentences in Chinese by using the active voice and present tense first. Then you need to change the sentences into passive voice. Meanwhile, you need to change these sentences to past tense and future tense. It means that you need to write 12 sentences on your notebook and bring your notebook to the class this Saturday. You can write these sentences in pinyin, but I highly recommend you to use both pinyin and Chinese characters. What is more, when you write down pinyin, do not forget to mark tones.

Last but not least, I want to share several links with you about the topics we talked before. It is about the cultural differences of expressing love between eastern and western countries, which is super interesing. If some of you did not watch these videos in class, I highly recommend you to watch them at home as a kind of entertainment in your spare time.

Best,
Tianyi
